I have a lump on the right side up my neck, below the hair line... ???

On the back of my neck, right below the hair line, I have a peas sized lump. I had this lump 2 years ago and it went away, and now its back. When I first got it, I freaked out, but it did go away... Now its back again. What could it be? Also, no pain or anything... I do have a history of neck pain from cracking my neck too much. I also gave up smoking Monday and last time I had this lump (in the very same spot) I had changed my brand of cigarettes... Can there be a connection?

I don't think it has anything to do with cigarettes. I'm not a Doctor but maybe a gland could be infected. I had the same thing before and it also went away. I know it is no help but thought I give some idea. Sorry and hope it goes away again and stays away.

Please take a deep breath and relax, my friend. That pea sized lumb on the right, dorsal aspect of your neck is most probably a post-auricular lymph node. Usually a "skin lesion," that is, a simple scratch to the skin on the scalp (in your case on the right side) or a infection (like a pimple (carbuncle)) or some other source of infection is the cause. We do not want to think, or quickly expect, that the problem is a cancer. My advice to you is to have someone (I know that it cost money to go in to see a doctor) but I really want to know, for your "peace of mind" and for my sake, that the problem is a simple thing that can be cleared up quickly and easily. I feel that it is a simple, localized infection of the skin over your right, posterior scalp that can be cleared up very easily if you go in to a doctor to get the proper diagnosis and some medication.
I which that I, personally, could see you, examine your scalp, and then treat the problem, but I am retired from clinical medicine, after working in the medical field for 20 years, so I really should be advising you to see someone else. I want to know how you are doing however. I am a friend to all you are in need and have a problem.
By the way, it is good that you have stopped smoking, because a beautiful young lady like yourself have a longer, healthier life ahead of her if she does not smoke.
Let me know how things turn out. My prayers are with you. My friendship is with you and you are not facing this problem by yourself.
If you want to write me more, it's okay. Take care.
    Joy, Peace, and Hope,
    Dr. Haddox

I had lymph node with a little pain on my right neck too and I went to consult with doctor, he said that I had it because I got infection in my mouth. He gave me an antibiotic to cure my mouth and now I feel my mouth and lymph node heal up. but for you if you don't feel pain from your lymph node, I think It is difference from my problem. You should go to see doctor to make sure it's relevant to TB or not.

Simple short answer..... "Go and see your doctor", you can not be diagnosed over the Internet, you need to seek professional advise.

I think I figured it out; It's a lymph node. When I drink to much caffeine It gets larger. Last time I had it, I was drinking Starbucks on a daily basis. And lately I've been drinking a red-bull or two a day. If it's not the caffeine, its cause my body is working on getting the toxins out of my body (since i stopped smoking) thus it is enlarged. Much like the ones on your throat enlarge when you have a cold.

Don't take chances. Have this lump checked out. Get on some kind of good program to help you also quit smoking. Discuss quitting smoking with your doctor. I hope the lump is not a serious problem but even it isn't, smoking is so please, please try and quit.
